Blue Origin Announces New Glenn Launch Date For The First Time

New Glenn launch date

Ever since Blue Origin commenced with the development of its New Glenn rocket in 2013, the rocket has yet to fly into space. After over 10 years of developing the next-generation mega-rocket, the aerospace company owned by Billionaire Jeff Bezos announces the New Glenn launch date which is scheduled to fly on January 10.

Blue Origin announced that the New Glenn’s inaugural mission named (NG-1) will be launching on Friday, January 10. The historic spaceflight is scheduled to liftoff from Launch Complex 36 in Florida. The aerospace company noted that the three-hour launch window for the NG-1 mission will open at exactly 1 a.m. EST (0600 UTC). During this historic spaceflight, we will keep you live updated on our site.

Why the New Glenn Launch Date Will Be Historical

Blue Origin started developing the New Glenn rocket in 2013 but made a public announcement of it in 2016. Since then, the Aerospace company has been working on perfecting every part of the rocket to ensure that it succeeds.

The New Glenn rocket named after NASA Astronaut John Glenn, the first American to fly around Earth will be launching for the first time on Friday, January 10. Blue Origin said that the NG-1 launch will become its first National Security Space Launch certification flight into space. Hence, it will surely be a historical moment for the aerospace company.

What you should know About the NG-1 Mission

During New Glenn’s first spaceflight, Blue Origin will put the Blue Ring Pathfinder as the spacecraft’s first payload. The mission will test the Blue Ring’s core flights, operational capabilities, and sophisticated ground system.

Blue Origin plans to test all these as part of its efforts to showcase the capabilities of the Defence Innovation Unit’s (DIU) Orbital Logistics Prototype. Despite the entire mission goal of the aerospace company, its ultimate goal still remains the same; to fly the spacecraft safely to orbit and return it to Earth.

Blue Origin noted that its engineers will be attempting to land the New Glenn’s booster offshore in the Atlantic Ocean. While this landing appears quite complex, the aerospace company suggests that they are definitely going to attempt it.

Jarrett Jones, SVP of New Glenn reveals that the launch will become their first flight into space using the New Glenn. He also stated that no amount of ground testing or mission simulation can actually replace the actual effort put into flying the rocket into orbit.

Jones remains optimistic as the outcome of the January 10 spaceflight will definitely teach the company how to improve their future launches. What do you think about this forthcoming New Glenn launch date?
